Baja Bound with Adventure Sports Network

When the waves of Baja call

Instead of looking for the right place to stay, just tow your stay behind you. In this episode of Road Ways, two couples accompanied by their road dog, hopped into a truck and towed a teardrop trailer with a rooftop tent to Baja, Mexico – where they scored empty waves, unbeatable tacos and (needless to say) an unforgettable time. After seeing a decent south swell developing toward San Diego and Mexico, they decided the best call was to hit the road and camp along the coastlibe in Mexico (seeing as the crowds in San Diego would undoubtedly inundate the lineups, this was the best move to make). With pretty much anything you could ever want on wheels, this crew describes their teardrop trailer trip down to Baja as, “game-changing.”

Hacks To Make You Love Camping

Looking to make your next camping experience as easy as possible?  The Off The Grid crew has you covered. Picking up these tips and tricks will make doing what you love easier. Whether you’re a camping vet, or here for your first time, these hacks will save you all the trouble and maximize the fun times.

Who doesn’t love taco Tuesday?

Before heading out on your next adventure, stop by your local Mexican market and pick up meat by the pound. Grab your favorite pre-marinated beef, chicken, port or some of all 3! Store it in your ARB fridge for grilling later, and skip the hassle of prepping your protein. Everybody wins, the kids will love it, and you save time on cooking!

Don’t Get Lost With Lost Service!

Your favorite adventure spots will be far from service. While we know you love being ‘OFF THE GRID’, and we know you don’t look forward to it, but all good things come to an end; the time to find your route back always comes. Before you leave for that next destination, download your map before you lose service! Remember your GPS (blue dot) is not the same as your network service.  Downloading Google Maps to your phone is free, that way when service is lost, you aren’t.  Here is how to download your maps for offline use:

  1. 1. Open the Google Maps app on your phone or tablet.
  2. 2. Make sure you’re connected to the internet and signed in to Google Maps.
  3. 3. Search for a place, like Mohave Road.
  4. 4. At the bottom, tap the name or address of the place and then tap More More and then Download offline map. If you searched for a place like a point of interest, tap More More and then Download offline map and then Download.
  5.

Don’t forget to fill up!

Time flies when you’re having fun! It’s easy to forget the simple tasks, but you never want to let the gas tank run out. Before you leave for your next adventure, fill & pack extra gas containers in case of emergency. An unexpected situation can arrive at any time, it never hurts to be prepared!

This is OTG, do you copy?

Exploring off road is the most fun in packs! Good communication with your crew makes for the easiest travel. The best way to reach your team is by radio. Station walkie talkies in every vehicle to ensure the pack travels smoothly. Make sure no one gets left behind and it all runs according to plan.

Wake up, it’s breakfast time!

Watching the sunrise is best with breakfast and the crew. A common favorite is always eggs, but they can be a hassle to pack. Skip the trouble of damaged shells and extra trash and store your pre-cracked eggs in a water bottle. We aren’t too big a fan of single use plastic, so we use Swell Bottles. Simply crack the desired amount into the empty water bottle, pack it with your food supply, and you’ve got breakfast made easy!

First Aid Prep!

Not everything goes to plan…but Off The Grid has got you covered! Each OTG Trailer is equipped with Outerlimit Supply first aid kits. If you aren’t using one of our trailers we highly recommend Outlimit Supply primarily because these kits go beyond the basic bandages and wraps found in most. The medicine packet has proven to be a god send for bad stomach aches, bee stings and bleeding control. Thank god we have never had to use it but there is a tourniquet in case of a bad accident, you can literally save someone’s life with these kits.

Have a great trip, and please adhere to the principles of Leave No Trace.
